Who said anything about voting on a new name? Do you need to be a core contributor with commit access just to express an opinion in advocacy@? As for making up a new name - the BSD license is quite permissive. One could fork it, get rid of the GNU and perl crap, reduce Berkeley down to a legalese footnote, etc. The (L)ibertarian (S)oftware (D)istribution, coming to an altered reality near you! ;-) (That last paragraph was obviously a joke.)
