A Entirely irrelevant and off topic (probably like most of this discussion - CC trimmed), but the last invasion of Britain took place a little over 200 years ago. It was the French (again), in 1797, near Fishguard in SW Wales. The invasion was beaten back by locals, including one Jemima Nicholas, who captured twelve soldiers single-handed with her pitchfork. 1066 was, of course, the last successful invasion.
