I wonder how many Universities or other academic institutes
teach Perl or use Perl for teaching some concept ?

I know that in the Weizmann Institute in Israel (see links at http://rehovot.pm.org/ )
there are two Perl courses (beginner and advanced) for biotechnology
students but I'd like to know if there are other institutions out there ?

When I asked my professor at University of Karlsruhe about something remotely related to Perl, he strongly urged me to stay away from "that language" as far as possible if I was going to write anything above a few hundred lines of code.

We learn Haskell, then Java, then C and assembly. (Then I'm done with my 2 semesters of CS. :) )

I wouldn't even dare asking my prof about using Perl to teach any CS concepts. His assistant, however, replied something along the lines of "I like Perl and there is a lot of good documentation and a lot of even better books availlable." He particularily pointed out "Mastering Algorithms...", Orwant et al. Then he hinted at that I'd better not quote him anywhere on campus.
