>Since you simply exclaim your reaction to Desiderio's new work without any
investigation of it then what you say is merely an unfounded opinion it's
unjustified to say a work by him is the greatest of 2008.

The only investigation which I think was lacking -- was seeing the actual the
piece in the flesh (which would be difficult)-- and seeing the millions of
other paintings that were made last year as well. (which is impossible)

And yet still -- I think it's important to make that kind of assertion about
the visual arts.

Does anyone here remember it being made -- for this year or any other ?

Movie of the year -- novel of the year -- record album of the year --- new
musical of the year -- all of these assertions get made (even though it's just
as impossible to listen to every new album or read every new novel.)

But for some reason -- visual art critics simply will not stick their necks
out on issues of "best of".

BTW, William, why is there "No doubt that Desiderio's work is worthy of
experiencing and serious study" ? Can you offer any reason that is not
institutional ? (i.e. the status of the collections that he's in and the
publications that have discussed him)
