He is completely outside the artworld that elevated Van Gogh above thousands of other painters who depicted "peasant clothing" - and until proven otherwise, he appears to have been outside any community of visual discernment at all -- collecting nothing -- preserving nothing -- practicing nothing -- and utterly oblivious to the major art controversy of his time ("decadent art" versus social idealism) He knew as much about visual beauty as I know about Chinese opera. I suppose that his iconic status is such that you and William have to kneel and kiss his pinky ring -- but his philosophy is firmly opposed to the life of forms in art. >I don't see any attacks on truth from Heidegger.
