I am forced to conclude that everything we know is finally a matter of belief. This sort of ultimate belief is different from the acceptance of independent material evidence, proofs, and may not require it. But some beliefs require convincing evidence, like mathematics, grammar, etc., and none can be provided for heaven and hell, so far. Thus I think and believe that some beliefs, like heaven and hell, may be accepted without evidence and some others require it. In the end we always act on beliefs because nothing is completely independent of our experiencing it and nothing can be fully identified. There is always a gap to be filled in with our belief, large or small. It replaces doubt and enables action. Belief is the bridge between us and what's out there both actual and metaphysical. wc
