I think most contemporary portraiture is done by photographers, and traditional oil & canvas is regarded as effete. Not that I necessarily agree with this, but most often photography is the medium of choice. -----Original Message----- From: "Chris Miller" <[email protected]> Date: Thu, 3 Dec 2009 17:11:17 To: <[email protected]> Subject: Contemporary Portraits
Who is the last portrait specialist to be included in a major art museum? Anyone born in the 20th Century? Apparently, the "unconcealing of truth" through portraits is a bit tangential to the modernist project. Which is not to say that portraits aren't still made, or that some portrait painters are very well paid, or that their work is excluded from historical museums like the Smithsonian. Any opinions on who is the greatest portrait specialist alive today? Nelson Shanks? It's really hard to say because it's so hard to find the work except in reproductions ____________________________________________________________ Nutrition Improve your career health.
