*Artist Pigments: Making Your Own Oil- and Water-Based Media

The advantages of grinding ones own paint include increased quality and
control of media as well as an economic artistic practice. This talk will
give an overview of historical and contemporary use of pure mineral and
synthetic pigments. Pigment properties such as permanence, opacity, and
toxicity will be discussed. The creation of both oil and water-based media
will be demonstrated, with an emphasis on safety precautions and potential
hazards in the studio.
