So? What's the message? Who can know what's in the heart of the art audience.
It's just another crap statement from someone outside of art who can't
appreciate it. Today, three different collectors told me how much they get out
of my work they own, how much in enriches their lives. I don't think they are
lying because they have no reason to, nothing to gain from it. And none of
them
mentioned what they paid for my work. I don't even remember what they paid.
Sappy as it sound to numb audiences, some people value art highly, gain from
it, and don't need to recall what it cost them. They don't care. Today I
don't recall what I paid for my kids' school tuition. I care that they got a
good education. It enriched them, and me, too. Some people love good music and
will pay whatever the concert ticket costs and they don't recall what that cost
was but they do remember good music. I detest the ideas that demean high
minded
values and degrade them as materialist self-love. If you care about
civilization, the cynical view won't get you there.

which he reifies and accepts as an objective criterion, without recognizing
himeself in it. But he has not "made it by liking the concert, but rather
by buying the ticket."
