Please feel free to get deeply involved in a topic, or drop into a discussion just to make a single point, to offer a short remark, or to ask a question--'lurkers' are especially encouraged to participate! We have as well extended the invitation to participate in the seminar to the members of several related electronic forums and, in short, we hope that many scholars and students of philosophy will be stimulated to discuss the topics as suggested by the titles of the chapters of the book. It is also evident to us that those who read the entire book (readily available in inexpensive paperback and electronic versions) and who participate throughout the seminar are fairly certain of getting a comprehensive and critical overview of the work of "the most original and versatile of American philosophers". The short book should be accessible both to the student of Peirce's philosophy, while at the same time "extremely instructive for the expert". We hope and expect that it will serve as a 'springboard' for discussions going well beyond its concise exposition of the work of Peirce. While each chapter is given a starting date, as is the case in all threaded discussions on PEIRCE-L, those interested in continuing a thread should feel free to do so even as another has begun. To facilitate future archive searches and thread-reading on the Peirce List each thread will commence its Subject line with the Chapter Number and Chapter Title from the book. We wish to thank in advance the knowledgeable Peirce scholars who are acting as emcees for agreeing to lead the discussion of each chapter.
