The first thing to do is to find out what condition the outside coax plant is.
Once you know that you can start finding out what upgrades/changes/replacements
you need to do to convert it to a DOCSIS system.

If it's in bad shape, consider replacing the coax with fiber in situ:

Not affiliated, haven't used their service, there are other companies doing the
same. Not a recommendation or endorsement.

Subject: [AFMUG] Cable Systems

We have an opportunity to acquire usage rights to a cable system that supplies
300 plus mobile homes.   We plan to just inject internet (no TV).   There will
be no head end equipment provided to us (currently off site at the cable
companies office), therefore just the cable in the ground and the amplifiers.
I know nothing about cable and want to know if it would be a good idea to take
this on.   I.e. what we would need to buy, head end stuff, boxes in the homes
etc.  Our plan would be to add a cabinet next to the cable head end and bring
bandwidth to the site via a backhaul link.

Thoughts ideas?

Anyone out there with cable experience willing to take a call to discuss this?

Thanks

Adam
