We didn't like the way CAF was structured, but I've participated in
applying for other gov'mint funding.
Or apply using good faith estimates and then engineer after you’ve been
awarded?
And it's this one. Even a serious estimate takes a lot of time. In our
case we would actually have real cash spent by the time engineering is
truly completed. The power company charges us $120 or so per pole for a
loading analysis, we don't actually know for sure what make-ready
they'll want done until we've spent that money, and we can't even reach
that point until we've already prepared and submitted pole
applications. So we can either put real money on the table before we
apply to find out if we have money, or we take our best guesses and try
not to aim too low. If we're wrong we'll have to be prepared to cover
the difference somehow. Sad truth. Someone will say just go
underground, but I'm telling you the situations with ROW and easements
in NY State is not a picnic either.
