The 48 volt supply is probably floating. Meaning neither + or - is tied to
chassis ground.
You must check this first. If it has its negative terminal electrically
connected to the chassis it will make it very difficult to power a -48
radio. If it has its + terminal tied to ground they you are golden.
The -48 radio wants either a float supply or one that has its + terminal
tied to ground.
But since it specifies -48 that means internally the chassis is tied to +.
