I think Eero (didn’t Amazon buy them?) is even more annoying, not only does it
require config via a phone app, you communicate with the router via “the
cloud”. Which means you can’t configure your new router unless it can connect
to the Internet out of the box with default settings.

I’m imagining a future where you can’t even drive your car or get food out of
your fridge if your Internet is down, and nothing works with software you
already have like a web browser, you need an app for everything.

Because more is better, right? The whole reasoning behind DECT 6 was that it
was 0.2 more than 5.8 GHz.

Yeah, I agree, but when they not only don't have a practical interface that can
be used on any device, but also remove basic functionality like being able to
manually set the channel (because people apparently aren't smart enough to be
trusted with such power), it earns a whole new level of hatred.

Annoyingly, most of the several hundred dollar multi-unit "whole home WiFi
systems", which everybody seems to think they need now, seem to do that.

I generally hate any consumer router that doesn't have a web interface.

I don't think so, unless they've changed it recently. Last time I checked into
it, the answer that I got was that there is no way to manually set the channel.
I think they use two 80mhz channels (one for devices to connect to, and another
for the remote things to connect to the base... but I'm not sure about that).

I hate those things.

I've only configured 1, and I think yes to all, and 80mhz. It was a pain to
configure. Have to use the App, if you HTTP To it from a PC, it just tells you
to download the App on your smartphone.

I've been telling people to stay away from them. Not to mention that the
google speedtest is horribly broken, and happily emails users that they are
getting very slow speeds.

Is there a way to configure the WiFi channels, or do we have to just trust
Google to choose wisely?

Do they use 20 or 80 MHz channels in 5 GHz?

Do all the pucks use the same channel?

Do they use additional 5 GHz spectrum with a hidden SSID for the mesh?
