The newer software versions have an option under config>IP called "Default alternative LAN1 IP address" which when enabled, will allow local access via 169.254.1.1. I think this will only works if the installers device fails to lease an IP, and falls back to an autoconfiguration address though, so you might have to get your installer to set a static address on the 169.254.1.0/16 network if the radio already has a color code programmed in, and their laptop is able to hit your DHCP server up for a lease.
