Unless you are the only one who would ever use them, I would assume tower 
climbers will not distinguish between ‘biners for lifting only vs. for life 
safety e.g. tying off.  It doesn’t seem to me that the steel ones weight that 
much, unless you’re carrying a bunch of them as you climb.  Pulleys are a 
different matter, plus those are used only for lifting, unless you’re ziplining.

I need to pick up a couple large carabiners, but I'm having trouble finding 
them.  
I'm looking for something like this 


in Aluminum (for lower weight) but without that cross piece on the bottom.  
These are big carabiners, the gate opens about 2" and it's about 8" from top to 
bottom.  

All I'm coming up with are Steel, which are 3x the weight, or these with that 
pin at the bottom.  I've seen some pictures where it looks like the pin may be 
removable, but no sites give good details on the carabiners other than the load 
rating.  

Anyone have a good source for these?  Small carabiners are really easy to find, 
but the large one's are being elusive for me.
