Apple Mail work fine for gmail on desktop, laptop and iphone. It connects via IMAP (NOT POP!). So I can use webmail and google stuff when I want, but most of the time I access via Apple Mail.
My email client needs to load instantly and be searchable whether I am online, NOT online, or on a crappy hotspot. So I need a cashed client. It works fine with office365 as well, but that came with outlook anyway which also has good offline/caching mode and searchability.
