AT&T also has a tendency to do nothing for existing customers, even if you threaten to go to the competition. But then they send you postcards for the next 6 months trying to win you back.
They probably want to abandon the copper, so you’d think they would try harder to get people to switch. Once you move off the DSL, they probably won’t let you get it back (not that you’d want to if you can get fiber). I still wonder if it’s fiber, or “fiber”. Like is it gigabit, or “gig speed”. Carriers will often talk about their gig speed fiber network, but in reality there’s one fiber feeder 17 hops upstream and it’s something else to the home, but as long as there’s one strand of fiber somewhere they call it fiber. Comcast actually runs ads saying only 10% of AT&T customers can get fiber or something like that. https://www.truthinadvertising.org/comcast-att-both-say-the-other-is-misleading-consumers/ From: AF <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Mike Hammett Sent: Wednesday, September 23, 2020 2:44 PM To: AnimalFarm Microwave Users Group <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [AFMUG] OT: (and kinda not) What's ATT doing for a FTTH these days? I have a friend who lives in an area where there is a fair amount of competition. He's been on DSL so long they are sending him a new modem. He's paying $45/month for the DSL he's got now and ATT is offering to install fiber and give him 12 Mbps for $57/month. This seems lowball to me, but I don't know what ATT is doing elsewhere. What should he say or do to get more for less? -- bp <part15sbs{at}gmail{dot}com> -- AF mailing list [email protected] <mailto:[email protected]> http://af.afmug.com/mailman/listinfo/af_af.afmug.com
