I don’t think he is a redneck, nor really a conservative. He is a prospector and miner of public acceptance and opportunity. Always looking for a self serving angle. He found a vein he could exploit in the rednecks of the nation.
He is an populist for the rich – authoritarian for certain- opportunist huckster that truly only cares about himself. But not to the extent that he cares about a legacy. Seems he is all about short term selfish ego gains. He once told Wold Blitzer “I probably identify more as a democrat” He was republican, then reform, then democrat, then independent, then republican. All in the last 20 years. A dyed in the wool conservative republican would have never jumped parties that many times.
