It is primarily needed for adjacent channel or non-co-channel interference situations as there can be wide differences in filtering. But even for co-channel, its important to know the practical threshold as well as the required T/I value that allows no more than 1 dB of degradation due to interference. Again, there are wide variances in system gain amongst different manufacturers and radio lines.
