Went to convert a 4000 watt coleman generator to a belt driven generator....

Guess what - the engine crankshaft is essentially the rotor shaft too.  The 
generator does not have a set of independent bearings that would allow it to be 
belt driven.  So I would have had to make a plate that emulates the crankcase 
and install a bearing in it.  Possibly cutting off the crankshaft.  I didn’t 
get far enough into it to see how the rotor was actually joined to the 
crankshaft.  

So much for a used $100 generator solution.  The cheapest belt driven AC 
generators I have found are about $500.  An alternator/inverter combo will not 
give me the watts I need.
