I always assume they did something nefarious prior, then deleted so without
subpeona, theres no way to know what. If I use fb as a jump point for an
identity theft, I'd delete it and sit on the required data. They have all
the harvested data for sure, fb makes that easy to download. They have all
the friends posts that arent publicly visible, that's got a lot of value,
cancel culture made it super lucrative. There are a ton of "log in with
facebook" that can be hijacked and people dont realize are there, much like
changing the email, once you've hijacked it, you've got it. You know via
email about fb, but now you dont know what else was compromised.
Facebook wont do anything, while its technichally a federal crime, it's not
like the FBI will go pulling warrants for you just to see if pinterest is
hacked.
An owned fb data profile is super valuable, especially if it's an active
user account, it's why fb exists, big data. Private messages, hidden posts,
etc. If I were going to commit a crime of any merit, I'd burn the place
down after also, better to not share what was done.
I personally believe there should be consumer protection laws mandating
facebook and the ilk have human manned direct resources for user given the
risk associated with a compromized account. We are well beyond funny cat
videos when it comes to social media and our digital presence.
Also could simply be an asshole, there are a lot of us out there.
