I read it was a 40knot wind + sandstorm.  Radar would have been about as useful as our radios as in why bother to turn it on. Plus any idea how much surface area that thing had?  In a 40 knot gale?  My question is, what were they doing with anchors if they weren't deploying them?

    You see, the root cause is that the canal is only 200 meters wide.
    If they had dredged it to 450 meters, that sucker could have done
    a little spin.

    The other solution would be to only allow ships that are < 200
    meters long.
