I read that too. But I have to think that they get storms like that
multiple times a year out there and it should have happened long ago...

Since every ship transits the canal with a certified pilot on board, I
want to know the story from the pilot. As soon as they assume
responsibility on the bridge it’s their problem.

You see, the root cause is that the canal is only 200 meters wide. If
they had dredged it to 450 meters, that sucker could have done a
little spin.
The other solution would be to only allow ships that are < 200 meters
long.
