In most states, if you want a covid shot, you will have it by the show.
The single shot effectiveness is 70-80% depending on which study you read.

So, lets break it down: Very few people are infected with covid in Texas. Most
people who want a shot will have their first shot by the show, yielding them
70-80% immune to a disease that very few people would be ill with.
Your likelihood of encountering the covid virus is very low and most people's
immunity will already be in place yielding a very low risk threshold.

I'm be more concerned with the drive to the airport than picking up covid from
the conference.

Now, of course it makes sense to be careful but the paranoia has got to stop at
some point.

That answer would be totally ignoring the question.   Texas isn't a mask
requirement state and what numbers they are reporting might not have any
relationship to the actual state of the disease at the time of the conference.
Wear a mask, maintain distance, don't eat indoors or go to bars.   Don't touch
your face with your hands unless you have disinfected your hands.   Remember
how well they prepared for an ice storm for their citizens.  Remember that
their representatives get out of town when there are problems in town.
