Unless it's changed in recent years, I was always told the 'DFS' sauce is secret. The manufacturer had to submit a firmware build to the FCC, who would test it, and then tell the manufacturer if it passed or not, If it failed, they were not told what was wrong, just that it 'wasn't right' so it was a guess->submit cycle. I'm guessing that's why there are so many false events is that they alarm on the cautious side. We don't even bother with 5.4 because it's so unreliable here in the Chicago burbs. Even with multiple frequencies, it's too much downtime for us to live with.

Most radios let you specify a secondary or even tertiary frequency so it can just go down the list instead of shut off for minutes/hours.
