Curious as to why you think a DB is necessary. Is it from reporting
requirements? Been doing this for 43 years and never had the fiber or
copper in a DB. Tried a couple of times but always went back to
spreadsheets.

Honestly the sooner you get it into a GeoDatabase the better. If you plan
on growing the fiber system you are eventually going to have to do it. The
more old information you have to add the harder it is. Doesn’t really
matter that much which system you use or if it’s something home-brew but it
needs to be in a database, not a spreadsheet.

Revisiting this.
I've been trying to find something besides spreadsheets to document
splices / splice cases, but cannot find anything that isn't an
all-inclusive package with a matching monthly fee. Does anyone know of
anything out there that works for this? I've been trying to use
spreadsheets, but find them extraordinarily cumbersome. I'm starting to
think some graphing paper and a pencil might be the only option.
I don't really need mapping, but something that involves
mapping/GIS/splice documentation may be useful as well.
Thanks.
