The recent peak was in May, and it dropped more in June and July than it did in August. I emphasized recent peak because the more serious peaks were years prior, and carjacking (along with most other crime) was already on a downward trend, as it has been nationwide for the past 30 years since a peak in the 80's and 90's crack epidemic. The justification for the guard deployment was that people felt unsafe. The data says they were safer than they'd been since 1970.
