Not only are they subject to calibration errors, they are also influenced by the tilt of the phone and any nearby metallic structures/objects that are subject to magnetization. No compass will work up a tower unless you can somehow hold it 20 feet away from the tower.
I have had good luck with two methods: 1) Study the route with Google Earth. Look for landmarks etc that you can see when at the site and use those for reference. 2) Have someone with a GPS at the base of the tower. Have them take off walking in straight lines away from the tower and read the heading once underway. Repeat until they are walking on the correct heading. Use their discovered heading as a visual landmark. Yesterday I was talking to one of the guys about how nice it would be to have an augmented reality app to look through the camera and see where the tower is through trees or obstructions. Then you go and post this :D I'll report back On Mon, Oct 20, 2014 at 9:03 PM, timothy steele via Af <[email protected]> wrote: anyone using the wireless installer app by deliberant?
