This is still possible to have an SM not realize the other side dropped the link since if there is no data, there is nothing to drive the normal disconnection mechanism (VC Error). Link Test is a quick way to do that. However, for this problem, if I understand your request correctly, George is correct in that the Forced BER feature in 13.2 should help. The SM’s receive power level will be precise now in absence of data and it won’t go stale.
