I have seen the test on the 709SC and it passed. In an Ethernet training class for a previous employer he bent the cable (not broken, just kinked), and the tester detected an error and told the distance to the kink. It was a very expensive tester. The next time I saw a tester like that we were doing a service call on a church and their IT contractor was there with one. We had him test and it passed with no errors detected.
Use what you want, but I'd never use scotchlock connectors on Ethernet.
