All of the updates did improve it greatly, but I've still had several here that
I compared with a fresh Vista (updated) vs 7.

7 was still faster, though we're talking 10% or so.

In games there really wasn't any difference beyond load time. Vista load time
was usually 50-100% longer.

A good Vista machine has impressed me in the past, but that same machine
upgraded to 7 was faster.

It upgraded to become 7.1 anyway.

Hey now, Vista had a few good attributes...

    Like, uhm... a start menu...

    and... uh...

If your system was 4x the system requirements it *could* play a game kinda
pretty...

wipe it, put windows 7 or windows 10 beta on it, not worth the nonsense
hassle, 8 is the vista of today

I'm setting up a new Desktop with Windows 8. I've only used it on my
netbook before, but it's much smaller screen. What 'Must have's' Do I need to
get it functional as a good desktop? I'm guessing some sort of start menu
replacement.

Or should I just wipe it and put Windows7 on it?

        Nate
