Wave Division Multiplexing. Like FDD microwave. You have a single
medium, aka shared path, air in the microwave case, a single fiber
strand in the WDM case. Both are separate Tx and Rx
frequencies/wavelengths. Both are full duplex. GigE over copper is
another full-duplex bi-directional interface.
