It is not reasonable to expect Outlook to download and mark for deletion all
54K messages with no glitches then quit so the server can do cleanup. I highly
recommend stopping the sync process periodically so Outlook will finish the
current message and quit the POP3 session. Then hit Send/Rcv again and it
should start up with the next message. Otherwise if the session times out
instead of ending normally, the server will take the safe approach and not
delete any of the downloaded messages, and you will start over from the
beginning.

So weather is your point? Sounds like maybe you have never had the pain of
running your own mail server. We used to get this note and again. Someone needs
to manually look at the message file and go to the spot if that message and
manually delete it. Good luck convincing bell south to do it.
