We had the same internal discussion. Customers are stupid. Things can only go one way with the Canopy PoE. However, we've had a lot less SMs lost to surges since we switched to the Laird POE-24iR's. Honestly, it wasn't a hard transition. The techs are able to walk customers through making sure things are plugged in correctly. /shrug

And FWIW, your "standard POE" argument doesn't work. Canopy was baked before there was 802.3af. Cisco aironet, too, which originally used the same pinout as Canopy as well. And Trango. Shit, we were POE hacking Apple AirPorts and RG1000s in late 2002.

i'm just saying that the financial decision for carrying the old and new poe goes deeper than how much they may or may not be making on the poe.

cambium after all is in the business of selling light bulbs (SMs) and if you need a special socket to use their light bulb it might behoove them to continue selling the socket AND the light bulb.

unfortunately this all goes back to the very beginning of not using a standard poe product.

by the way we are not planning to move all new installs to telrad that statement was for dramatic effect ;-)

That will be really funny if CTI sources them and moto looses

customer wiring mistakes will be almost
eliminated. I haven't seen that as a big problem

Thanks for the link josh. They normally
cost ~$10 so the eBay price of $24 is
someone trying to make a buck on them
before they are gone. Also eventually eBay
will run out too so that's not a long term
                            solution.

Come on cambium listen to your long time

POE if we still want to?

It's very frustrating that we now have to
change our install procedures AND our tech
support procedures. The new POE is also
very cumbersome and prone to clients
                            plugging things in backwards etc.

Can you either keep selling them or give
us access to the manufacturer so that we
                            can still buy them?
