I remember now. I was getting Juniper coded EX-SFP-1GE-LX optics for $35 where
the flexOptix ones were $41.80 according to their site.

I think the biggest benefit is when you just want to have a “pile” of optics
laying around and code them on the fly for whatever vendor.

Fortunately for us, we’ve never really had issues using 3rd party so it hasn’t
been a big issue other than price.

That’s what Core does for us. I’ve been using them more and more lately. They
will code to Juniper, Cisco, Calix, etc. It’s nice getting “Calix” GPON SFPs
at a reasonable price. ☺

I’ve looked at getting a flexbox V3. There was a reason I hadn’t ordered one
yet but I’ll be danged if I can remember what it was. ☺

Check out flexoptix.. they have a really great programmable SFP solution.. Your
generic optic shows up as an official Juniper, Cisco, or whatever..

I use http://www.datainterfaces.com/ when I need generic optics.

I use Core Telecom when I need burned optics. Core can usually get pretty
close or beat the generics depending on the optic.

Never had an issue with either vendor.

For those of you running Juniper (EX/MX), are you using generic SFPs? If so,
can you recommend a brand? Will MT SFPs work?

Thanks,

Josh
