My first tower project as a WISP, I used L-Com connectors on Mohawk armored cable. The APs have been upgraded but the cables are still in use today. Not something I've been willing to do again, though.

In this particular application we used L-com connectors. We tested the
cable with our fluke DSX and passed with flying colors including
shielding test. We're scratching our heads here. I will give best
tronics a call and see if they can provide a double shield solution.

Best-Tronics will make cables to custom length for you. In your situation,
you might want to see if they can make them with double shielded cable.

Or, if you buy double-shielded cable, and terminate them yourself with the
type of connector that has a metal strain relief that crimps around the
shield, I think it makes a pretty foolproof connection. It's a pain though.

That type of plug is available from Emerson/AIM, Sentinel, L-Com among
others. Sentinel connectors are available from rj45s.com but I find the
loading bars to be a royal pain. I believe Best-Tronics uses exclusively
Tyco/AMP plugs.

Subject: [AFMUG] CAT5e or CAT6 shielded outdoor patch cable

We have a situation where an AirFiber is struggling to maintain a
gigabit ethernet connection. It's right next to a FM antenna. We've
replaced the ~75ft. patch cable with belden shielded CAT5 and shielded
ends. We've replaced the cable a couple time now. It will run gigabit
in good conditions, but as soon as it rains or snows, the link bounces
between gig and 100meg. Both ends are shielded and bonded.

My question is, I would like to replace the cable again but with
tested factory made outdoor shielded CAT5e or CAT6 at 75ft. I cannot
seem to find a quality outdoor rated STP cable at custom lengths that
is at least 24AWG solid wire.

If anyone can make a recommendation, that would be great.
