The R700 does beam shaping. A couple dBi, but that's effective enough. I
haven't worked with it much, the guys that do say the ZoneDirector isn't
required, but you'll be missing out on some of the goodies like auto
load balancing and handoff, IIRC.

I'm not touching the Unifi comment...
I have 3 in a big hall with thousands of people. I regularly see 350
wireless associations. 0 complaints in like 5 years now? No
controller. Mikrotik hotspot.

Thx for the Ruckus recommendation- what’s the magic sauce that
allows so many concurrent connections? The ZoneFlex R710 claims
up to 500 connections, does any of the new UniFi stuff get
anywhere near that?
Is a ZoneDirector required for using the APs?

Project to provide public Wi-Fi coverage in a church

best of this?
Thinking UniFi AC-Pro, limiting G radio to 45 users, limiting
AC radio to 65
Install 6x APs below metal rafters, turn down G radio transmit
power to mitigate self-interference from channel reuse. Green
circles show approximate placement, kinda skewed in photo tho.
