I'd never have a smart phone without an extremely rugged case.

That’d be great. I’m likely just not aware of it. It certainly did not come
with it.

I do miss the Kevlar back. I don’t use cases; ugly and bulky. But, the new
model is fairly non-slip and I can take a corner at normal sped and not have it
fly off my center console.

Hmm, the Spec says wireless charging...

"Supports PMA and Qi wireless charging (wireless charger sold separately)"

Yes, a special adapter. Only Verizon sells this model phone; it is unique to
them. Bad part of that is the bloatware, but those can be hacked out of the
phone. No wireless charging on this model.

Does it do wireless charging? What is 'Turbo charge'? A special charger?
or just regular USB Charging with a high output supply?

..and the battery is the best Ive ever had. I can pound on it all day with
btooth, Wi-Fi and cellular downloading and easily make it through a day. The
turbo charging gives a full charge in about 30 minutes too.

I have it. Loved the T1 too, but mine had a MIC issue. The T2 is not especially
attractive, but its really well put together. It is nearly shatter-proof. My
nephew works for Verizon. When his area manager introduced the phone to the
assembled store teams, he threw it down the hallway and announced,
Introducing the Droid Turbo 2! Subsequently, he allowed my nephew to
drive over it with no breaking at all.

It also permits up 2 terabyte external storage (so it claims), but the only
common micro SD card Ive found is 64g. Lots of other subtle cool features,
from chopping twice to turn on and off the LED as a flashlight, to twisting
twice to open the camera. I love the remote sensing too, as it can silence
calls, let me check the time, etc. without touching the phone.

Another cool feature is that is knows when you are looking at it, so the
screen does not time out if you are simply reading a page. As long as it
sensing a face with so many inches, the screen stays active.

The Turbo2 looks intriguing.

Droid Turbo meets those. I primarily want battery life and that thing
delivers. Never had cold effect the speaker at all, but it definitely drops
the battery like a brick.

The Boss got a new toy for Christmas and it won't work with his old Smartphone,
so he's looking to upgrade. I'm happy with my ancient smartphone, so I haven't
had a reason to pay attention to the 'new' things that are out there. In
looking at what's out there now, It seems like MicroSD cards are going away, as
well as removable batteries. Do they just figure that everything goes to and
from the cloud now, and doesn't need to be stored on the phone? We'll stick
with Android phones.

The Samsung Edge6 and Note 5 look to be almost the same thing, but no SD card.
I thought I remembered seeing a TV ad for a Sony phone where they were using it
outside, then washed it off under a faucet, but I can't remember which model it
was.

Some things that would be nice to have:
Rugged, survive a drop from a couple feet while working outside.
Decent screen size, and daylight viewable.
Good battery, especially in cold.
Good Speaker phone
Minor weather resistance, splashes etc, not submersion.

I like how the CAT phones look http://www.catphones.com but with that size of
screen, I'm afraid if you need a keyboard, you'll lose too much screen real
estate.

Any Brands/models I need to go check out?
