I saw this exact problem last night in -15 degree weather here and emailed Cambium support last night and by 8am this morning had test firmware 2.6.1-RC1 which has a fix for the DDR memory timing which is causing this problem. It might have helped that I emailed one of their engineers and he immediately sent me back the following explanation of what is happening. If you see this problem, I would highly recommend emailing him your "debug crashlog" results and let him know you're trying this firmware and the results of it so they can get in the next release if it works for you. It also only affects certain units so this firmware shouldn't be for everyone. I would reach out to Sriram before applying any of the firmware files in the link below.
[email protected] Hi Darin, Thanks for reaching out to me. We believe that there may be a DDR (memory) timing issue with a specific set of MAC Addresses that were manufactured. The issue happens only when the ambient temperature dips below -5 C. There is nothing wrong with the memory but under winter temperatures it appears to be a bit more sensitive. We can solve this problem by adjusting the timing of the DDR in software. Since you are in Detroit, I suspect that your radios are running into this issue. The MAC addresses you have sent me below appear to be in the list of impacted devices. In addition, the crash logs you sent me also indicate its due to the memory timing issue. It’ll be great if you can eventually send me the crashlogs from the other two radios as well. Please find binaries that are designed to correct the timing error that occurs with the DDR memory here: goo.gl/4TpMif. For the Sync radios use the firmware labelled “ APPX….” and for non-sync radio use the firmware labelled “SMPX…". We have tested this fix internally in cold chambers and throughput tests, but has not gone through full regression yet. However, we have also tested this fix in over 160 customers radio over the last week who are impacted by this issue. Please install this firmware only on the impacted devices. In the meantime, we will complete our internal testing and release 2.6.1 in the next couple of weeks that will contain the solution. If you decide to install it, please keep me up to date on how it is going. Like I mentioned earlier, this has been given out to a few other customers in cold regions and they have reported positive results as their radios have stabilized and the issue is no longer seen. I will keep you up to date with how we are progressing along with further internal testing.
