Our installers were paid by the job for installs. We tried to keep them out of having to re-visit the customer if at all possible. The reason being is they would tend to expect the same rates no matter what they did. We paid $45 per install and were pretty good about scheduling several in an area. Typical contract installer would do 3-4 installs a day. This sometimes meant we had to wait a week or so to get them installed, but if the customer knew that upfront they were typically fine. If they wanted an expedite, we charged a $35 expedite fee and passed that along to the installer.
