Holy cow, I didn't know he had a series before Mr wizards world, I may have
some binge watching to do, was he an asshole to the kids the first time around
too?

I loved Mr. Wizard as a kid. I mean the original, Steve is referring to the
revival.

Today people would accuse him of being a perv for having kids come over to
his house.

Is it true Professor Proton is based on Mr. Wizard? Played by another of my
favorites, Bob Newhart.

The best part is when the hot dog is really hot, you can turn the lights
off and it has flashes of light coming out of it.

I built a hot dog cooker when I was in the 4th grade that did the same
thing. Worked great.

If you want to see something REALLY scary, even scarier than the 220VAC
hot-water-showerheads:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EViyccc2t9w

it's not even a resistive coil heater, it simply applies AC electricity
directly to the water.

You wouldn't do well in South America. The shower heads are 220v heat on
demand and all seem to have two temperatures, ice cold or scald the hell out of
you. Always made me nervous seeing two wires running into the wall from the
same device where my water was coming out. I said a little prayer every time I
got in the shower just in case I was found dead and naked with what was left of
my hair on fire.

I know its a stupid fear, but I have never liked mixing water and
electricity for hot water. Im "that guy" who works on things live quite often
because "it will just take a minute". I could knock in my chimney instead of
fixing the flashing to stop the leak if I switched to an electric water heater
for about the same cost as the flashing work (when I flash, I flash things for
life... and because the movie sucked, but thats a different topic). I just
foresee our city water having dissolve the liner and me down there at three in
the morning half drunk (well sh%^face) with my metal leatheman and no shoes
dicking around with it in my boxers and then next thing you know, Imin the ER
with some broad trying to shove a tube up my crank.

One of the great things about having 230V 15A circuits in a house,
you can install a front loading washing machine that electrically heats its own
water as it fills, on demand. Only requires a cold water connection, drain, and
electricity. No hot water hookup at all.

I do like 220 everywhere. I wonder if it is referenced to
earth ground?
Seems like it would be safer to float it. And with 220 your
wires can be so much smaller.

If we really wanted everything to be safe we would use
shuttered BS1363 (UK code) receptacles with fused plugs, even for 120VAC 15A
circuits.

Most people in the US have never worked with them, but they're
very mechanically robust and safe.

He explained the reason, said it was code too, but ive never verified that, but
the reason makes sense, so ground up ever since for me
