My dad got cataracts at 50 or so. Doc told him probably from years of welding and/or all of the crap he was exposed to in the steel mill during the 80s.

What's the corrective procedure where they use microwave? Isn't that for astigmatism? My eye doc told me I'd be a good candidate for that, but it obviously isn't permanent. Meh, I just throw in contacts every day.

Toasty...
I asked my eye doctor about cataracts caused by microwave exposure. He did some research and came up with nothing but I swear I read many WWII radar techs got cataracts.

Wait until they discover troposcatter and modern troposcatter modems (the US military uses them, and a few other NATO countries). You need dual diversity dishes on each end and they have to be immense. There's lots of old abandoned troposcatter stuff in northern Alaska and the Yukon, Nunavut which provided remote-site radar data links to the SAGE network.

google image search alaska tropo scatter:

you thought some licensed band 6 GHz stuff had a high EIRP with 8' dishes... Imagine putting a 1200W amplifier (which is about a 4000W electrical load, a lot is lost to heat) into the feed of a 25 foot dish feed. *nods* these guys have redundant networks with 80 GHz, 23\18 GHz,
11\6 GHz, fiber, diverse fiber, etc.

I know a company that was running an 80GHz link in Vegas out to
8.1 miles but if someone spit in the air in the path it went down.
This is also why they aren’t in business any more besides the
    inept management.

Yup, there's a ton of HFT guys doing crazy things. 80 GHz links 10
miles long. I beleive I recall an 18 mile 23 GHz link. They really
    stretch things out...
