That was what I had planned, I ended up with a rack full of rats nest in my own
home...
Lots of unused coax too.

My house is going to have a full rack w/ patch panels...... I may not be your
average customer though. I have friends that are worse.. CCR1036 for home
usage? Because why not! I guess it makes a difference when comcast residential
is willing to hand off with 10gb with the gigabit to the home product.

We have both kinds. The ones with the rats nest(s) (and not just behind the
TV). We also have those with the full NOC with high end Cisco equipment (and
other equipment) in 19" racks in air conditioned rooms.

You definitely have a different class of customers than I do, if they have
“wiring closets”. More like the rats nest behind the TV.

Plus customers want everything WiFi now. What is this “wiring” of which
you speak? You mean charging cables?

There's still *a* box, yes. It can be the DVR you have on another TV
elsewhere. You just don't need one at your RVU compliant TV. I beleive other
pay TV services can implement this, I just don't think any have. The next
version of the DVR won't go at a TV, though, it'll go in the "wiring closet".

So there’s still a STB, or DVR, some kind of box?

Is this the one Wheeler wants you to buy from Google or Amazon?

DirecTV's next Genie DVR will be headless. Samsung TVs can already connect
to a Genie DVR over Ethernet without needing a receiver. I believe they killed
their Genie Go product because they'll be incorporating that functionality
directly in the newer DVRs.

Netflix is way more flexible about bandwidth and adapting video quality on
the fly than Direct TV On Demand, if that’s the technology they plan to use. I
don’t know about Sling TV, apparently I don’t have very many customers using it.

I have UVerse at my house, I expect at some point they will tell me that my
current STB is no longer supported and I have to get some Direct TV box.

That’s the other thing, people seem to sign up for whatever has an app
already installed on their smart TV or satellite receiver. I’m not sure how
AT&T intends to sell OTT video streaming with no STB, unless they get Samsung
to put an app in their smart TVs. I don’t think people are ready to replace
their 60 inch TV with an iPad.

You can already watch directv live over the internet using their App, if
you are a subscriber.
