They probably removed the detonator from the grenade. This is usually
done by unscrewing the neck of the lever and ring assy.
the only issue is if the detonator has a crack or has leaked out into
the inner shell of the nade.
Bad things could happen but as long you are least 25m away from center
blast you may only suffer some non life threatening injuries.
A safer place is behind block wall 50m away would work.
