There are lots of self tapping machine screws of every size. Home Depot
should have them. Just drill the proper size hole and the screw does the
rest. Metal shaving inside the case is a concern.

That's a good idea.
If there are not holes, is there a small screw type that is short and
self-tapping?
Not sure the best way to mount the ears if the holes for the ears don't
exist on the switch.

This is really specific; don't ask why I need it :)
But I need a standard rack threaded screw that looks like a 6 to 7 inch long
motherboard standoff screw.
So it would stand a 1U switch forward from the 19" rack about 6-7 inches.
I tried standard rack standoff modules, but the space is too limiting.
