And you never have to do an oil change or air filter or any other periodic
maint. They just run and run and run. Silent, clean, fast, transportation for
the more advanced humans....

My office is 7 miles away. I go 45 miles round trip to take kids to school
each morning. I go another 70 miles round trip for sports after school 3-4
times a week, and another 100+ per day on the weekends going to soccer games.
My daily average mileage is typically under 150 miles. I get 19MPG today (in
my X5) so it's costing me about $20 in gas those days. That's at least 25 days
a month...and damn near pays for itself over 5 years. So I might have to plug
in every night, but that won't be that big of a deal. I won't have to go to
the gas station either. If I have to go somewhere far away, I still have my
BMW. I won't take it on long trips to anyways. It'll be a good daily driver.

Now the race is on. Who can make the thing go 600-1000 miles...Once they hit
3-5x the capacity of the batteries today (which they say will be done by 2020),
I don't think those arguments will hold any water.

Regards,
Chuck

Or park it at a charging station and get topped up for free while you eat

When I was in Norway this summer I saw so many Teslas in Oslo. I asked around
and basically it’s because the taxes on “electric cars" are less than regular
cars. Electric cars also don't have to pay the congestion charges, and all
around town they have free charging stations. So in the end, it cost them
significantly less than a BMW/Merc to buy.

Even if it were 5 seconds that would be more time every two weeks than what
I spend at a gas station. Then I have to pay for power anyway...

Not a fan of the front end duck bill. The rear has too much Prius. Side
looks great. Interior looked unfinished or space aged.

115k preorders for something you won't see in two years, though? Woof.

No interest really. Plugging in every time I get home? Yuck. I love
the updates they do with the Model S and the API power is really awesome, but
I'm more for NA over boost, let alone electric.

I saw the website and thought "Who's going to preorder a car that won't
be announced for another hour?". IPhone users :P
