I really wasn't trying to be condescending, it would actually be a useful thing to have a media converter that understood optic DOM and could be monitored... Even if it only had a maximum of three or four OIDs to poll, for link status, Rx power, link speed on the copper port.
But by the time one adds that functionality you have a $65 device vs. a $35 media converter and it's basically the same cost as a cheap mikrotik router with an SFP port.
