Japanese tv show, video games, and card games that got popular in the early to mid 90s in the US. They make a few different variants every few years. Each variant of the game has different Pokemon you can collect that are specific to that version. Some of the versions require ownership of two or three other games to unlock certain ones. Think of Pokemon as little animals that can only say one word over and over, and that's the Pokemon's name. They are "collected" with things called pokeballs. (Pronounced Pokey-balls). There's hundreds and hundreds of Pokemon.
The tag line is "gotta catch em all". Nintendo stock went up over 11 BILLION dollars upon the release of the new VR/mobile based game that was just released, in a single day.
