This is true. There is a list floating around of what freqs the 3ghz radio converts. If there is a 5GHz radio nearby (colocated), the internal components can sometimes pick that up and downconvert the noise to 3GHz.
For all of our important 3.65 stuff, we moved to AF3X, and more than doubled throughput in the process for the same channel sizes on the same dishes.
